WORKSHOP AUTOCUE

The presenter is a personification of the programme itself, they should then match the brand of the channel/ outlet they represent and ultimately be someone the audience feel has CREDIBILITY and can identify with.

In script writing aim for:

  • CLARITY
  • INTONATION
  • PRONUNCIATION
  • DRAMA (where relevant)
  • VARIETY OF TONE AND EMPHASIS/ SUBORDINATION
  • PAUSE AND CAREFUL PACE
  • EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO STORIES
  • WARM, AUTHORATIVE TONE
  • RELAXED MANNER § HONESTY

Keeping the eye line on the camera so that it does not look like you are reading from a monitor

  • keep your body as still as possible
  • keep movements and gestures and facial movements to a minimum (these could be distracting during a report)

Use PTCs sparingly and with purpose, relevance and in harmony with your story’s tone.

PIECE TO CAMERA (PTC)
News packages don't need to include a piece to camera, but for news in particular they often do.
Delivering them well is all about the five P’s :
 ▪ Practice (including rehearsing prior to record)
 ▪ Preparation (ditto + good background research)
 ▪ Pace (timing and delivery is key)
 ▪ Panache (do it confidently and with appropriate style)
 ▪ Position (choose a good location/framing – relevant – reporter storytelling)

Live PTC
Particular art and are often delivered before introducing a package relevant to the story being covered.
Sometimes known as a ‘donut’ or ‘sandwich’ as the reporter tops and tails the piece with a live PTC, interview or 2-way etc with the ‘package’ in the middle .

Final piece of work done in the workshop

Overall from this work shop we were able to experiment ideas without the pressure of having it in our final piece of work, we learnt a lot about lighting, using the auto cue (it'll be easier then the actor trying to remember their lines off by heart), green screen, camera angles and sound.
From this we're going to highly consider using the auto cue so that our anchor isn't having to learn a lot of lines off by heart, as well as this we were able to learn about the green screen and how it needs to be fully light to be edited correctly.
