I did research into branding to help me decide how I wanted our Youtube channel to look and be presented.
I looked into three Youtube channels with similar audiences to the one we wanted to target, one news and one charity.
BBC 3 Youtube channel
BBC 3 are known for having a audience (1) aged 16-34 and being alternative. They try to bring high quality stories to a younger audience. Their stories that they feature are ones that directly influence their audience, BBC 3 use their header image on their youtube to show one of their featured stories. Not only is it a story that is relevant to an audience that is known for using their phones a lot but it's also formatted in a way where there is a lot of colour and little text so it can be read easily.
They feature their social media on their Youtube banner too again targeting young people who are on their phones a lot using social media.
The new logo for BBC 3 has received a lot of criticism but the people who helped design is describe it as (2)"The first is 'make me think'... The second is 'make me laugh'... The third, the exclamation mark, is 'give me a voice', which is what we will do for young people,"
Dogs trust
Dogs Trust use their channel for training, unlike the BBC they have a strong presence offline so don't have to advertise themselves through their youtube channel.
They haven't taken much effort in editing their header, they've used it to advertise the dogs they have in their care, they've continued with their iconic yellow logo for easy identification as well as including a link to their website in their header.
Their automatic trailer is their TV ad further promoting the brand.
In conclusion as graphic designer for our group I'm hoping to take influence from the BBC and possibly have stills from our news episode with our logo and social media contacts. It would be nice to try and make it look as professional as them through things like after effects and playing around with the text.
I'd like to use our logo as our icon picture like both channels did, to make it feel more branded.
